Inspired by ukiyo-e artist Hokusai's Under the Wave Off Kanagawa (The Great Wave),one of the most famous and iconic wood-block prints, this canvas apron is perfect for everyday use in the kitchen. Maekake is a traditional style of Japanese apron, tied at the hips and worn by craftsmen and the staff of certain shops. Maekake aprons have been favored by workmen since the 15th century Muromachi period. The name maekake comes from mae, meaning front, and the verb kakeru, to hang. The simple design, a thickly woven square of cotton cloth with long straps, displays both the taste and practical wisdom of the garment's original creators. 100% cotton. Made in Japan. Measures 18 x 26 in.
