Guo Pei Chinoiserie Wristlet

Chinoiserie is a 17th- and 18th-century Western style of interior design that represents fanciful European interpretations of Chinese styles. Yet, chinoiserie is no longer what it used to be. As a contemporary designer Guo Pei is consciously engaging with and subverting conceptual categories such as chinoiserie and export art and the designer takes this tradition and makes it her own re-imagined fashion. This exclusive wristlet was created in celebration of the exhibition Guo Pei: Couture Fantasy at the Legion of Honor museum in San Francisco. Crafted from polyester dupioni fabric, this wristlet has a fabric wrist band, metallic gold zipper and hardware, and is finished with blue piping. Wrist band measures 12 in. Measures 6 x 9 in.

The exhibition Guo Pei: Couture Fantasy at San Francisco’s Legion of Honor focuses on the extraordinary designs of Guo Pei—hailed as China’s first couturier. Through exquisite craftsmanship, lavish embroidery, and unconventional dressmaking techniques, Guo Pei creates a fantasy that fuses the influences of China’s imperial past and export art, European architecture, international theater, and the botanical world.
